"The sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.89 For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."
(CCC 1285)
Confirmation is the third sacrament of Christian Initiation that, together with Baptism and the Eucharist, completes this phase of a Christian’s life of faith. For the baptized, receiving Confirmation unites them more intimately with the Church, and enriches them with the power of the Holy Spirit, who is the source of excellence of this sacrament.
The word confirmation alone expresses the profound meaning of this sacrament, which comes to affirm, to consolidate the grace received in Baptism. Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation is the expression of our maturity in the Faith and of our identity with the Church and the person of Jesus and his Gospel. Therefore, as the disciples on the feast of Pentecost, once we receive the Holy Spirit in the Confirmation of our faith, we become eloquent witnesses of the Good News that is Jesus.
In our St Joseph’s community, we have two groups of young people who are preparing to receive this sacrament, one group will do it in May 2018 and the other group in May of 2019.
Let us pray for these young people so that their Confirmation will be a true sign of their Christian maturity.
